The first two editions encountered a huge success, and were sponsored by the Leiden University Green Office, student associations, such as Minerva and Augustinus, private actors like Rabobank, and several regional green parties. Since then, the battle has become an annual event, gaining recognition and attracting more students and businesses every year.

The Sustainable Business Battle (SBB) is a 3-week business challenge in which 10 interdisciplinary teams of students compete in order to find the most sustainable, innovative, and practical solutions to their given case. The cases are authentic and provided by 5 different companies. Each participating company or organisation is assigned two teams of students.

WHAT SETS US APART:

Not only is the SBB incredibly innovative in its approach, but it also presents students with real life cases, and offers both businesses and participants a platform to network, share their knowledge, and make a difference within a local context.

FOR WHOm?

We strongly believe in diversity. Thus, students from all backgrounds and walks of life are welcome to apply, provided they have an interest in problem-solving and sustainability! In the past, Dutch and international applicants from Leiden University, TU Delft, the University of Amsterdam, and the Haagse Hogeschool have joined the battle. Prior knowledge in sustainability is appreciated but not required. Teams will be interdisciplinary and each student will have the opportunity to contribute.
